Singapore Airlines has set an incredibly high bar for ultra-short-haul flights. From the seat to the service, the experience can be summarised in a single word: impeccable. In this post, I'll show you how Singapore Airlines has become the benchmark for what every short-haul flight could be (and should be).

Airport Experience
My journey began at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA1). While business class passengers have a dedicated priority check-in, I noticed the economy queue was also moving quickly. The entire process was smooth and handled by friendly agents. For lounge access, I was offered a choice: the Plaza Premium Lounge or the Global Lounge. The check-in agent helpfully explained that the former has better food, while the latter is more exclusive. I opted for the Plaza Premium, but on second thought, since my credit card already grants me access there, I should have experienced the more exclusive Global Lounge.
Boarding and Pre-Departure
Boarding was on schedule for this flight. Stepping on board, I was greeted by a very friendly crew member, who addressed me by my last name. Not long after settling in the seat, I was then offered a pre-departure beverage, with choices of water, juice, champagne and mimosa. Just before take off, there was also the hot towel service. This has already set a great tone for a fantastic flight.

The Seat
The Business Class on this A359MH aircraft features a staggered 1-2-1 configuration with a seat designed for medium-haul flights. A control panel on the side allows for easy adjustments, transforming the seat into a fully flat bed. I chose an odd-numbered row window seat, which is positioned closer to the window and offers a strong sense of privacy thanks to the seat's shell. Overall, it's an exceptionally comfortable product for a short regional flight. My only critique is the noticeable gap between the seat and the window—a missed opportunity for Singapore Airlines to have utilised that space to widen the seat and further enhance passenger comfort.

In-Flight Entertainment
For entertainment, the seat is equipped with a tiltable HD touchscreen running the latest Thales AVANT system. While the selection of blockbuster movies, music, and games was impressive, trying to watch the new Mission Impossible on a one-hour flight was, predictably, a mission impossible. If you are that passenger, you will be pleased that it also featured the classic interactive flight map.

Meal and Drink Service
To be frank, on a flight this short I was expecting a pre-wrapped cold sandwich at best. But it seems Singapore Airlines makes a habit of shattering expectations. What I received was a colourful tuna poke bowl, complete with a selection of hot and cold drinks. This is truly impressive!

Amenities
The amenities provided on this flight were expected to be minimal. It was a surprise that pillow and blanket are provided on the seat. I realised that headphones were not offered proactively, but I got a pair immediately after a polite request. There are 2 toilets shared between 40 business class passengers on this plane. The toilets on this flight was kept spotlessly clean and stocked with Payot products. I am a particularly big fan of the step that opens the rubbish bin cover.

Final Verdict
This flight is a textbook example of how all short-haul flight could be. Not only did Singapore Airlines provide a comfortable seat product, but they also (over-)delivered all the services possible within one hour in the sky. What's more, the meal was fantastic. Flight attendants were attentive and friendly. Overall, this flight is a 11 out of 10. Singapore Airlines is a well-deserved 5-star airline.
